The 2013 EthicMark® Awards will be presented at the 2013 SRI Conference November 9th at The Broadmoor. The World Business Academy executes the award with the Award's co-sponsors, Ethical Markets Media, LLC, and the University of Notre Dame Mendoza College of Business.  Founded in 2004 by Hazel Henderson, author of "Ethical Markets: Growing the Green Economy", the EthicMark Awards recognize socially responsible media campaigns by businesses, non-profit organization, or individuals.  

 


Conference Hosts, Producers
Q: Who hosts and produces the conference?
A: The SRI Conference on Sustainable, Responsible, Impact Investing is produced by First Affirmative Financial Network in collaboration with a number of SRI industry organizations. You will see a lot of your conference hosts throughout your stay at The Broadmoor - on stage, in the hallways, on the dance floor... Our goal is to make your conference experience as valuable and memorable as possible.
Handicap Access
Q: I am physically challenged and cannot walk very far. Should I attend?
I am in a wheelchair. Will I be able to get to all of the sessions?
A: The Broadmoor is well-equipped for your needs.  There are ADA rooms in all room categories, and wheelchair access is available throughout the property.

Wheelchairs
The Broadmoor offers wheelchairs, free of cost, subject to availability. Reservations are required.  You may call The Broadmoor to reserve: 800.634.7711.   

Scooters
Motorized scooters are available for rent at The Broadmoor. The scooters are available for $80.00 for one day or $145 for two to seven days, subject to availability. Reservations are required: 800.634.7711.

Q: I am hearing/sight impaired. Is it possible I could have an assigned seat in the front row of the sessions I attend?
A: Yes. Just let Krystala (888.774.2663; Krystala@SRIconference.com) know which sessions you want to attend and we will be happy to reserve a front-row seat for you.
Internet Access
Q: Will there be internet workstations available for participant use?
A: Yes. There will be CyberStations in the exhibit area with high-speed internet access available free of charge for participant use. 

The $14./per day resort fee includes high speed internet, both wireless and hard lined, in guest rooms. 

There is complimentary wireless access in the public areas.

How do I get there?
A:

The Broadmoor is located in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

It is the longest-running consecutive winner of both the AAA Five-Diamond and Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star awards. Since first opening in 1918, The Broadmoor has offered guests a unique way to experience the beauty of the American West, and continues that tradition through the Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star day spa as well as its restaurants (including the only Five-Star, Five-Diamond restaurant in Colorado, Penrose Room).  Tennis courts, championship golf, indoor/outdoor pools, distinctive retail shops, specialty tours, activities and programs for guests of all ages and interests are available.  

The Broadmoor is located near the southern edge of the Rockies, surrounded by stunning natural beauty. It has been described as the gateway to the West. Colorado Springs was originally a small mining town, but now counts itself as one of the top destinations in the U.S. for vacations and conferences due to its picturesque mountain backdrop, 300 days of sunshine and friendly locals. Colorado Springs offers an abundance of natural beauty, including Pikes Peak, as well as a variety of attractions, art galleries and activities for guests of all ages.

Q: What kind of climate can I expect in November?
A:

In early November, daytime temperatures will likely be in the mid-50's degrees Fahrenheit.  Overnight lows are likely to be in the upper-20's degrees Fahrenheit.  Be sure to bring layers to wear for maximum comfort and flexibility.

Colorado Springs sits more than a mile above sea level at 6,035 feet (1839 m.) with some areas lower and higher because of the mountainous terrain. 

Participants not acclimated to high altitude and dry climate are strongly encouraged to increase their water intake and limit their alcohol intake. 

Lodging
Q: What kind of lodging is available at The Broadmoor?

What is the room rate?  What dates does the rate cover? Is there an early departure fee?  Is there a cutoff date to receive the discounted conference rate?
A: Lodging is handled separately from conference registration.

Please book your reservation directly with The Broadmoor at 800.634.7711.  To receive the conference rate, telephone requests must identify their affiliation with The SRI Conference.  Rates cannot be changed at check-in or checkout for guests who fail to identify their affiliation at the time the reservation is made.

Reservations must be made on or before October 7th to receive the discounted group rate.  Reservation requests after this date will be accepted on a space available basis.

The discounted room rate is $209. per night, exclusive of taxes, for single or double occupancy.  City and state taxes were 9.63% as of January, 2014. 

A daily resort fee will be applied to all guest rooms at the rate of $14.00 per day for single or double occupancy and $2.50 for each additional person.  The fee is not inclusive of applicable taxes.  It includes access to the following:  all incoming faxes, unlimited access to the Fitness Center; toll free access calls and local access calls, up to one hour in length; in-room coffee and tea service; high speed internet, both wireless and hard lined.  In addition, a Public Improvement Fee of 2.25% will be assessed to all purchases at The Broadmoor.

The conference rate is available to participants, on a space availability basis, between November 5th and November 14th, 2014.

Cancellation Policy:  In order to prevent a cancellation fee of one night's room rate, cancellation or reduction in arrival and/or departure dates must be confirmed no later than five (5) days prior to the arrival date.

Seven meals, breaks and receptions are included in your registration fee: dinner, Sunday, November 9th through dinner on Tuesday, November 11th. There will be vegan or vegetarian choices available at all meals.

Networking
Q: What kind of networking opportunities can I expect?
A: From start to finish, from our New Participant Orientation to the Networking Reception, the Lunch Topic Tables, Ice Cream Social, Exhibitor Fair, Celebration/Dance and beyond, a primary goal of The SRI Conference is to provide participants with multiple networking opportunities. You will find conference attendees extraordinarily friendly. Join in!
Q: Are there opportunities for small groups to gather around a topic of special interest?
A: Yes. In addition to the presentations and sessions listed on the conference agenda, lunch on Monday, November 10th and Tuesday, November 11th features Topic Tables. These are popular conversation circles that provide an informal opportunity for participants to share ideas on topics of mutual interest. Topics range across a broad spectrum of issues. Look for a table sign that sparks your interest and join the group. A few tables will have blank signs to allow groups to form spontaneously. Just write your topic, post your sign, and others will join you.
Packing Suggestions
Q: What suggestions do you have for packing?
A: Before packing, please check the weather online to avoid any surprises!

Attire for the conference is business casual (no ties!). In November, we can expect cool, crisp nights and refreshing days.  Historically, temperatures range from highs in the mid 50's Fahrenheit to lows in the upper 20's Fahrenheit. 

Wearing layers will help facilitate your comfort level at all times.   

While conference events will occur indoors, you may want to consider the possibility of enjoying outdoor recreation as well.   

In addition, you may want a swimsuit for use in the indoor pools, and workout clothes for the gym.

Recreation
Q: What kind of recreation is available at The Broadmoor?
A:

Plan to come in early, and/or stay a few days after the conference.  There are many activities onsite as well as within easy travel distance.

Onsite: Come early or stay after the conference to take advantage of a number of fitness and recreational and fitness activities: the Spa at The Broadmoor, indoor and outdoor pools, Fitness Center, Specialty and Boutique Shops, outdoor excursions (fly fishing, horseback riding, rock climbing, etc.), art classes.

Although there are no walking trails onsite, the walk around the lake is popular.  Hiking trails in Colorado Springs.

Offsite:  There are many fascinating, unique and fun choices for recreation in the Colorado Springs area.  Just a few include:

Pikes Peak is the stunning 14,000 foot (4,300 meters) mountain sitting in the western backdrop of Colorado Springs.  It is the 31st highest peak in Colorado and the most visited mountain in North America. 

Garden of the Gods is a beautiful 1392-acre public park and a Registered National Landmark located only minutes from downtown Colorado Springs.  The area is filled with striking sandstone formations with a view of Pikes Peak.  The visitor and Nature Center are free of charge.  The area is a great place to explore as a hiker, mountain biker, or rock climber.  Guided walks and horseback rides are available.  

Cheyenne Mountain Zoo is the only mountain zoo in the United States.  It is home to more than 750 animals including 32 endangered species.  

Seven Falls (181 feet tall) is often referred to as the "Grandest Mile of Scenery in Colorado".  It is the only waterfall in Colorado listed in the National Geographic list of international waterfalls.  The $8.75 admission fee includes a ride on the mountain elevator to Eagles' Nest Observatory for spectacular views.

Cave of the Winds in located in Manitou Springs, eight miles from downtown Colorado Springs.  It holds 200 million years of geological history, and is filled with beautiful limestone stalactites and flowstone curtains.  Guided tours are available.

Q: How do I register for The SRI Conference?

Q: I can't come to the full conference. May I register and pay for a portion of it?
A: The cost of attending The SRI Conference is significantly lower than any comparable financial conference, particularly considering that all meals are included in the registration fee. The conference operates on a very tight budget.
Q: What is the cancellation policy?
A: Refund requests will be granted less a $100. administrative fee for full registrations, $50. for $495. registrations through October 4, 2013. Thereafter, no refunds will be available.

Q: Does the conference provide transportation to/from any of the nearby airports?

The SRI Conference does not provide transportation between the nearby Colorado Springs and Denver airports and The Broadmoor.

Q: Do I need a rental car? What are the parking rates at The Broadmoor?

If you want to enjoy the surrounding area beyond The Broadmoor, you may choose to rent a car. 

We are pleased to pass on rental car discounts from Avis and Hertz. 

For Avis, the Avis Worldwide Discount (AWD) Number for The SRI Conference is J996266.  You may book a rental by calling 1-800-331-1600 with the discount number, or by using the following link.  The discount number will autofill into this reservation form.  The discount is effective 7 days prior to the conference until 7 days after the conference.  The Avis discount is good in Denver and Colorado Springs.
